Welcome to the Christmas edition of the Carnival of Fraud, celebrating our 16th week. On with the show…
- Sox First discusses the issue of whether Sarbanes-Oxley is constitutional. This ties in well with my recent article on the costs and benefits of Sarbanes-Oxley.
- The Digerati Life did a cool post about the Top 10 Scams of 2006. My favorites are the Craigslist fake check scam and the Oprah Winfrey Show scam. Digerati Life plans on doing more posts on scams in 2007, so hopefully they’l have more submissions for the Carnival of Fraud.
- David Maister treats us to his true confessions about marketing tactics (or scams, depending upon how you look at them) that have worked on him.
- Home Business Wiz blogs about home business scams of which you should be aware. (Don’t forget multi-level marketing companies like Mary Kay, in which more than 99% of participants lose money!)
- Campus Grotto points out that college students are at an unusually high risk of identity theft. Here’s what you can do if you’ve become a victim of identity theft.
- Regular contributor WenchyPoo forgot about us this week, but I snagged this post from her blog about the worst kind of scam…. lying to ourselves and making resolutions we don’t intend to keep.
- My featured post from last week is about yet another tax being proposed for Southeastern Wisconsin. My state, my county, and my city are tax hells. Yet they keep piling it on. When are the politicians going to stop driving businesses and people away?
Thanks for all of the submissions. Send your blog post about something scammy or fraudulent on our Carnival of Fraud submission page.
