Another Carnival of Fraud

Welcome to the weekly edition of the Carnival of Fraud, brought to you by FRAUDfiles…

This one was cool. Wise Bread talks about scams at carnivals and fairgrounds. The games look easy, right? Until you see how they’re rigged against the player.

Consumer Education has a post about work at home opportunities. Scams abound in this arena! Fraudsters know that lots of moms are desperate to stay home with their babies but still contribute to the family financially. (Mary Kay is infamous for promising that you can made loads of money while “staying home with your children.”)

Our good friends over at Sox First discuss an idea to make corporate lawyers be gatekeepers, and make them certify SEC filings. Interesting idea.

And in the ongoing saga of Usana Health Sciences… A couple of weeks ago, Barry Minkow and Fraud Discovery Institute released a huge report on Usana, detailing all the material misrepresentations the company makes to investors and potential distributors. (Yes, I had a hand in this investigation!) Barry released two videos that do a nice job of explaining the problem with Usana. The first outlines the misrepresentations, and the second helps you compare vitamin prices.
