Fraud News

32 weeks and counting for the Carnival of Fraud….

Campus Grotto provides a few tips for college students who want to prevent identity theft.

Fred Fry has an interesting post about international money transfers and the possiblity that banks are skimming money off them.  Fred says, “Maybe fraud, maybe not. But if so, it is at an institutional-level.”

Aspeth suggests participation in The Casey Serin Project.  Casey is an interesting young guy who has one of two stories: he’s either a complete fraud who perpetrated numerous mortgage frauds, or he’s a guy who got unlucky in the real estate market. (Since he says that he lied on mortgage applications, I vote for the former.) Aspeth says, “High-profile Congressmen are advocating a subprime mortgage bailout. But what about the untold thousands of admitted felons who would benefit from such legislation? Why is more attention not being paid to the blatent fraud that has occurred in this past real estate cycle?”

And speaking of mortgage fraud, Digerati Life is blogging about killing your credit with mortgage fraud and subprime borrowing. This post is a great read on the real estate market and no-money-down mortgages.

Law professor Larry Ribstein at Ideoblog asks: Would SOX have stopped Naccio? He’s blogging about the fact that Sarbanes-Oxley does not stop fraud at the top of organizations. He says, “SOX has not suddenly made people more honest. At best, it has increased the costs of fraud, but of course without reducing the benefits.”

As usual, I’m blogging about Usana Health Sciences. More and more misrepresentations and non-disclosures are popping up every time we turn around. And here are a couple of Usana distributor vicitms for those of you who don’t think pyramid schemes like Usana really hurt anyone.
