AOL management is upset with me?

Fraud News

Rumor has it that the powers-that-be at AOL are upset because last week I published an article about the budget cuts. Well, I guess we’re not supposed to call them budget cuts. Depending on who you believe, the emergency budget cuts might not be emergency and they might not be cuts at all. Unless of course, the fact that almost all of the writers who are paid for each post they write, aren’t allowed to write (at least until further notice).

Part of the problem with the AOL budget crisis is that management didn’t have the story straight before they started talking to bloggers.

I got several different emails because I write for several of their blogs. In one, there was “budget shuffling” and a “posting vacation.” In another, there was an “emergency” and we were all to stop posting immediately. In the one from the real bosses, the blogs are all just over budget number for 2008, the blogs are profitable, we’re not stopping posting*, and there will be new monthly budgets starting in August**.

I find it interesting that management would be upset with me, as there were many more AOL bloggers who expressed their displeasure with the budget cuts and emergency orders. The difference? The others who complained all leaked the budget cuts anonymously or commented about it anonymously on blogs. I was the only one willing to put my name behind what I said.

So yes, I suppose that AOL management can be upset with me for standing behind my statements and being willing to own up to the criticism that is mine. I guess I’m the only person with enough chutzpah to do that. So be it.
