Tracy Coenen, CPA, CFF Biography

Tracy Coenen is a forensic accountant and fraud investigator with Sequence Inc. in Milwaukee and Chicago, investigating embezzlement, financial statement fraud, insurance fraud, and litigation matters. Her credentials include an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Law Studies, a Master of Business Administration, a Certified Public Accountant license, designation as Certified in Financial Forensics, and a former Adjunct Professor at Concordia University – Wisconsin.
Tracy has penned more than 100 articles on fraud and forensic accounting, and is the author of two books, Expert Fraud Investigation: A Step-by-Step Guide and Essentials of Corporate Fraud. She has been a repeat guest on CNBC's personal finance show On the Money commenting on fraud and consumer scams.

With a career spent focused on fraud investigation and prevention, Tracy Coenen, CPA, CFF leads Sequence Inc., serving as president, forensic accountant, fraud investigator and expert witness. Her entrepreneurial spirit, charismatic personality, tremendous work ethic and drive allow her to expand her impact beyond her clients, through the authorship of two books and hundreds of articles.
Tracy’s books Expert Fraud Investigation: A Step-by-Step Guide and Essentials of Corporate Fraud have cemented her in the minds of colleagues as an authority on fraud detection and investigation. She has personally investigated hundreds of frauds in a wide variety of industries, including cases of embezzlement, financial statement fraud, investment fraud, and insurance fraud. She has also served as an expert witness in numerous cases involving damage calculations, commercial contract disputes, shareholder disputes and criminal defense.
Coenen is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin. She is also Certified in Financial Forensics, and her educational background includes an honors bachelor of arts in Criminology and Law Studies and a master of Business Administration, both from Marquette University.
In addition to her independent projects, Tracy is the lead author of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants publication The CPA’s Handbook of Fraud and Commercial Crime Prevention. Coenen has been published in numerous industry publications and is a professional blogger on consumer finance and money scams for AOL.
Tracy has been an adjunct professor at Concordia University and an adjunct faculty member for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). She is a graduate of the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and a member of the Board of Advisors of Pyramid Scheme Alert. She was honored by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners as the 2007 winner of the prestigious Hubbard Award. Tracy is a 2010 Marquette University Alumni National Awards winner, receiving the Entrepreneurial Award from the College of Business Administration.
